Berk Snow Basin Conditions Report 2/18/25
First thing: There is snow. About 18" or a generous 2' of light dry snow beneath a layer of 1" hard crust. About another 1.5" of dust on top of the crust. I'm guessing that there is another 3-4" layer at the base from the earlier storms in the season. All said: about 2 1/2' of snow on the ground.
Second thing: The crust layer is pretty resilient; non-breakable, which made for sketchy skiing unfortunately. I was planning to make several runs, but my lap down Rumpus to bottom Ruthies skied like ice in the trees and not too fun, since I kept anticipating the crust to break and send me flying (which didn't happen..). Verdict: We need another storm to drop more snow on top of the crust for it to ski well.
Third thing: Alex has done a freakin' amazing job plowing us out! Big thanks to this dude!
Fourth and final thing: Please don't skin track directly up the center of Sugar Run (see picture below). The trail is now wide enough for a low/mid angle downhill run and once the skin track has been set, all other folks tend to follow it. I set a track up the lookers right side the entire length. And definitely don't boot back/skin up Liftline. This is one of the few good steeper downhill fall-line decents possible when the snow is deeper.

Thanks for the report! Did you see any new big trees down? It’s been crazy windy up here lately.
