ABOUT:
Queen of the Catskills

After a series of traumatic events, a high school English teacher in the South Bronx begins retreating to the mountains looking to heal. As the wilderness starts to mend her spirit, she rediscovers a past love of skiing, and embarks on a multi-year quest to become the first woman to backcountry ski 33 of the highest peaks in the Catskill Mountains—alone.

JAMIE KENNARD

JULIE McGUIRE
Jamie Kennard purchased a camera in 2022 after losing his wife to cancer and began a self-taught journey into filmmaking, creating a series of vignette films and the award-winning ski documentary, VARIABLE (2024). Jamie is also an accomplished ski mountaineer who, along with his brother, completed a historic 12-year quest (2012-2024) to ski all 81 of the Catskill and Adirondack High Peaks—the first complete ski of the Catskills, the first ski of the 46 Adirondack mountains since 1996, and the only complete ski of both mountain ranges, ever. He lives in Woodstock, NY, in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, where he continues exploring the intersection of outdoor adventure and storytelling through photography, filmmaking, and writing.
Julie McGuire is a high school English teacher, outdoors enthusiast, and avid backcountry skier. On November 30, 2024, she completed a four-year journey to become the first woman to ski all 33 Catskill High Peaks. Julie volunteers as a trail maintainer with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and serves as a board member of the Catskill 3500 Club. She also volunteers with Winter4Kids, where she teaches her students from the South Bronx how to ski. She is currently pursuing a new project to ski the “lower 67,” with hopes of becoming the first person to ski the 100 highest mountains in the Catskills.
